Best Home Remedies for Cleaning Grout

Tiled floors are super pretty and a favourite of many people. But discoloured grout can reverse the effect and make the kitchen or bathroom look dull. Since the pasty substance is essential to fill the gap between tiles, you better keep it clean. When it comes to cleaning grout, there are more than one home remedy. Check them out in this article.

grout cleaning

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a magic ingredient in many home remedies. To clean grout, add a quarter cup of baking soda to a mixture of one tablespoon liquid dish soap, ¼ cup of white vinegar and two gallons of hot water. Apply this mixture on the grout and wait for some time before you mop with warm water.

Lemon Juice

With its antioxidant properties, lemon finds place in skin care and many other daily uses. Take ¼ cup of lemon juice and mix it with 3 tablespoon salt, ¾ cup of baking soda, ½ cup vinegar, 3 tablespoon dish washing liquid and 10 drops of essential oil. You can mix it in a large bowl and then fill it in a spray bottle. Spray it on the grout and scrub after a few minutes.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Apply a paste of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and liquid soap on the tile grout using a brush. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before washing it off with hot water. You can use a towel to wipe away the remaining paste. While making the paste, remember to mix three parts baking soda with one part hydrogen peroxide and add to it one tablespoon of liquid soap.

Salt

The antibacterial properties of salt make it an active ingredient in many cleaning agents. It can kill bacteria and clean the grout thus rendering a shine to the tiles. First, wet the floor with water or a wet cloth. Sprinkle salt over the area and scrub the surface. Keep it overnight and clean it with water the next morning.

Borax

Borax is again a cleaning agent that helps keep many things clean. To make a paste, add ¼ cup of borax to ½ cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons of liquid soap. Now, add this mixture to a gallon of warm water. Dip the mop in this mixture and apply on the grout. You may repeat this till the floor is sparkling clean.

White Vinegar

The acidic property of white vinegar makes it a good cleaner. It has the ability to dissolve stains including those on tile grout. To make a mixture, add ½ cup of white vinegar to one tablespoon of dishwashing detergent. You can pour this into a spray bottle and spray on the floor. Scrub after 15 minutes and rinse with water.

The advantage of home remedies for grout is that they don’t damage the floor like the mixtures available in stores. You can safely use these remedies and add your own discoveries to the list if they are of help. To seek professional assistance, contact Deluxe Tile and Grout Cleaning Perth today.
